Online participation and digital literacies; in other words, its online survival in a digital world where there is no compass to guide you.
I am very fortunate to have digital design experts and educators in the group that carries different perspective from culture to pedagogy. A truly altruistic group that comes together for the sake of “LEARNING & SHARING”, making people like me “a dinosaur in the digital age “ feels supported and not judged.
The title we used was " The Person in The Mirror”. It's supposed to reflect on oneself and ask where one is in this learning universe, where to start and how to proceed by finding what you need. There are areas of self-exploration and areas of self-improvement.
By going through the whole process made me realized that education in the current climate has undergone a 360 facelift in terms of teaching pedagogy. The availability of IT has provided a kaleidoscope of teaching methods to meet the needs of the learners, incorporating social media and apps. Teachers not only need to know the "substance to teach " but also the presentation and the methods of delivery to engage the learners. Similarly, learners also need to know how to navigate the teaching platform. Digital learning has paradoxically enabled communities to learn together yet learn separately at their own time and their own space. Grouping communities that would not have been able to do so , stripping down the “wall barrier”, just like what we are doing in ONL !
The internet has a vast amount of information circulating around, some good, some bad, some fake and some true. Information available with a few clicks has resulted in reduced need to memorize or remember certain facts or formulas etc., my learners were able to find information faster than I can tell them but making sense of it all seemed to be the challenge, like fitting all the pieces of jigsaw from the internet to make a picture fit for the occasion.
Now that we have gotten our “jigsaw pieces” and “picture”, HOW much can we share? WHO can we share with? WHAT can we share and what's stopping us from sharing?
This leads us very nicely into the next topic......
Open learning- sharing and openness in education

Topic 3: learning in communities-networked collaborative learning

Blog for week 3 Topic 3: Learning in communities – networked collaborative learning In this third topic, we will explore aspects of collaborative learning in relation to networked online spaces for learning. To interact and learn together with peers in different formats have become an integral part of student centered education. Technology offers new possibilities for interaction and forming new kinds of social networks, including learners as well as facilitators and experts – but also offers challenges, such as keeping focus on learning processes, not tools, in online environments. You will be encouraged to reflect on the meaning of networked collaborative learning and the development of learning communities in relation to PBL and building personal learning networks and environments for peer support and your informal learning   This week focuses on collaborative learning in communities and explored the difference between collaboration and corporation. Teaching in the virtual

Week 2 Blog open learning-sharing and openness

Blog for week Topic 2: Open Learning – sharing and openness In this topic we will explore the benefits and challenges of openness in education. We will look at issues around copyright and in particular the open licensing of content (Creative Commons) and how this opens up new opportunities for collaborative learning and development. Sharing and reusing OER (Open Educational Resources) and the consequent development of OEP (Open Educational Practices) will also be examined.   Openness as a continuum in education, education pedagogy has changed over the decades and from classroom in physical form to virtual interaction in the digital world. The transformation of has its good and bad points. Openness has enabled information and knowledge to be disseminated allowing more opportunities for the less privilege and collaboration.  Social media tools like Youtube, and facebook etc. has been used. These tool initially intended to be for social interaction are powerful, convenient ( if th
